We will be visiting the Lincoln Memorial today and this memorial was built in honor of our nation's 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. The monument itself was built to look similar to the Greek temples. This building has 36 columns, which represent the number of states in the Union at the time of Lincoln's death. There is a large statue of Lincoln in this monument as well. The Gettysburg Address and his 2nd Inagural Address are included as well. In 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr delivered his "I Have A Dream" speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial too!
When we are visiting this monument, we will be conducting a history lesson about what Abraham Lincoln himself did for this country. We will discuss slavery and how important he was during this era. We will also discuss the advances he provided for our country.
